FAQ
Q: What Tools do we use?
A: The primary tool we use in our training system is verbal markers paired with the dog’s daily food. We use “Yes” “Good” and “Nope” to allow the dog to begin to understand how to differentiate between right and wrong. On top of the verbal markers we use verbal praise, physical touch and/or affection, play with toys, and we use other dogs to assist in socialization and teaching the dogs how to coexist with other dogs in the real world. We also use leashes, prong collars, slip collars in teaching the dog how to walk politely with their owners and use the leash to assist us in communicating with the dog. As your dog progresses through our training system, we use the E Collar to communicate with the dog in an off leash scenario. We teach the E Collar at low levels to teach the dog how to respond to the tool and also teach them how to turn the pressure off and toward the end of our training program, how to avoid it altogether.
Q. Do We use corrections in our training program?
A. Yes. We believe it is imperative for your dog to understand the difference between right and wrong. Corrections allow us to communicate that some decisions are good and some are not. We primarily use praise and food rewards to convey the right behaviors, but in the occasional situation a dog makes a mistake, we use the correction and follow through with explanation of the correct behavior.
Q. Will My dog miss me during board and train?
A. It’s natural to believe your dog will be sad or miss you during board and train as many people have not been without their dog for 3+ weeks at a time. The short answer is, No, your dog will not miss you. We ensure that your dog is in an environment where their day is planned out and structured so that all their decisions are made for them. This allows us to create a balanced and stress free environment for your dog as they no longer have to worry about what they should be doing as we act as their leader and make many of the decisions for them. While you’ll obviously miss your dog during the time spent with us at Pride of the Pack, at the end of our training time, your dog will thank you and be happier over it’s lifetime for allowing for the training to create a new, less stressful world for them.
Q. Is my dog going to turn into a robot?
A. No, your dog is not going to turn into a robot. Our training plan removes bad behaviors and rewards the good. Your dog will not lose their personality, friendliness, or quirks you’ve grown to love. They will simply be the same dog you brought to us with a new understanding of the real world who understands and communicates better with their owner and knows the difference between right and wrong.
Q. Do we offer discounts or sales?
A. We do not. We offer packages for our Train and Play program, but all other programs are the price listed.
Q. How can you hire us?
A. Using our contact form you can get in touch with us and we will get back to you and discuss which program is the best for you. Whether it’s one on one training, board and train, or just simply overnight boarding, we will work with you to find the best program for you and your dog.
Q. DO you use positive reinforcement?
A. We most definitely do. We believe that positive reinforcement can be an incredible way to imprint new behaviors on a dog and reward them for good and acceptable behaviors. We do, however, maintain a balance and also use corrections to steer the dog away from any bad behaviors.
Q. is my dog too old for training?
A. No, it is never too late to begin training and improving your dog’s communication skills, obedience, and overall health and well being.
Q. at what age can you start training a puppy?
A. If you have a puppy in your own home, the sooner the better. You can begin training the second you get your dog. If you’d like us to train your puppy we recommend waiting until 20 weeks (5 months) old so we can ensure they’ve had all their shots and medical work done.
Q. How Many times a day can i work on training with my dog?
A. Training should be looked at as a lifestyle and not just a few moments during the day. While you can work specific obedience and new behaviors in short, fun sessions, you can also use everyday real world situations such as sitting at a street corner, waiting at doorways, and holding place in your home while you get work done as training,
